MEET THE HENS AT CLUCKINGHAM PALACE

Meet the Royal Hens who reside at Cluckingham Palace

Our History

Meet The Royal hens who reside at Cluckingham Palace,  Only the best coop for my Queens 👸.

Newly decorated for my Free Range Cluckers

A Little information about Our Hens

Speciality Breed Hens Vs Standard Hens, What sets them apart?

At Cluckingham Palace,  not all Hens are created equal and We're proud of it. Speciality breed hens are a world apart from the commercial hybrids you’ll find in most egg cartons. These heritage ladies come from traditional, pure lines often dating back centuries. They're the blue-bloods of the poultry world — think of them as the aristocracy of the henhouse.

👑 What Makes Speciality Hens So Special?

Unique personalities, from chatty Sussexes to elegant Marans, these girls are not just any run of the mill factory clones,  They're full of character.

Distinctive Eggs: Speciality breeds lay eggs in a stunning range of colours — deep chocolate browns, blues, greens, and creams — a natural rainbow that supermarket hens can’t rival.

Slower But Worth It: Unlike commercial hybrids bred for sheer quantity, speciality breeds lay fewer eggs per year — but what they produce is richer, often with creamier yolks and stronger shells.

Biodiversity & Preservation:

Unlike many commercial hybrids, Speciality breeds are rare or endangered. Keeping them supports heritage farming and preserves important genetic lines.

Natural lifestyle

At Cluckingham Palace,  The girls are able to live as naturally as possible, Scratching,  dust baths, (nothing better than a day at the mud spa, where everyday is a Spa day). Roosting and clucking with dignity.

No chemicals,  just good old fashioned country living.

🥚 So Why Not Just Use Hybrids?

Standard commercial hybrids like the isa brown/ box standard Loham are bred for sheer quantity , high output, and short lifespans.

Speciality breeds may be slower and sassier, but we think their eggs — and their lives — are far more meaningful.

At Cluckingham Palace, we don’t just sell eggs — we share a little piece of hen heritage in every box.

The Rhode Island White chicken breed has a fascinating history that dates back to the early 1900s. Developed in Rhode Island, United States, this breed was specifically bred for its excellent egg-laying abilities and meat production. Here’s a closer look at the history of the Rhode Island White chicken breed:

  • Origins: The Rhode Island White breed was developed by crossing White Wyandottes, Partridge Cochins, and Rose Comb White Leghorns. This selective crossbreeding aimed to create a chicken breed that excelled in both egg-laying and meat production.
  • Recognition: In 1922, the Rhode Island White chicken breed was officially recognized by the American Poultry Association (APA). It was acknowledged for its exceptional qualities, which made it a valuable addition to the poultry world.
  • Egg production: Rhode Island Whites are renowned for their exceptional egg-laying abilities. They are known to lay around 200-300 eggs per year, making them a popular choice among backyard chicken keepers and commercial farms alike.
  • Meat quality: While primarily bred for their egg-laying capabilities, Rhode Island Whites also excel in meat production. Their meat is known for its tenderness, flavor, and texture, making it a delight for poultry enthusiasts who appreciate quality meat.
  • Dual-purpose breed: One of the defining features of the Rhode Island White chicken breed is its dual-purpose nature. It combines the best qualities of meat and egg production, making it a versatile choice for farmers and backyard chicken enthusiasts looking to maximize both aspects of poultry farming.
  • Endangered status: Despite its once-prominent presence, the Rhode Island White breed faced a decline in popularity after the mid-1900s. It gradually became a rare breed, with a declining number of breeders. However, efforts are being made to revive and preserve this breed by dedicated enthusiasts and conservation organizations.
