We are a family-owned and operated business located in the heart of the countryside. Our farm specializes in raising and selling free-range chickens, ducks eggs. We believe in providing our customers with the highest quality, ethically-raised poultry possible. Our birds are raised on a diet of certified organic feed and are never given any antibiotics or hormones. We take pride in the care and attention we give to each and every bird, ensuring they live happy and healthy lives.
We are a private working farm, unfortunately we cannot accommodate public visitors, especially during winter.
Devere Farm is on a hill, which becomes very muddy and slippy during winter lol or most of the year due to our Great British weather. Which makes it unsuitable for visitors.
We are happy to answer any ONLINE questions to those who want to learn more and provide educational videos on our YouTube channel
During housing measures set by the government, poultry farms are under restrictions, which means we have to have biosecurity measures in place. This usually means only the farmers are allowed access to their farms.
Enjoy the challenges and triumphs of being a farmer!
My name is Abbe, I have owned this farmland since 2021, firstly, moving my horses in the May of that year as Mr French kindly allowed me before papers had completed to give my 2 rescues somewhere to live and graze.
I then ventured to get hens and ducks, which was all very new to me, however, I had the thirst for learning, However, making plenty of mistakes along the way. I started to raise my own hens, and for me that's where my love of chickens started. Watching them hatch and grow up is the cutest thing ever; I thought I was god creating life 😂.
Since then, I have had physical fights with fox and many storms, Tree falling on newly built hen houses, there is nothing this farm hasn't chucked at me that I haven't overcome.
As a single mum and skipped generations farmer, you have to have resilient attitude. I remember my nan telling me about how she was younger and working on a farm in Bideford during the war as a land girl and thought well if Nan can do it, so can I.
In 2023 I decided that goats would be a lovely addition to the farm, I have a variety of goat breeds, Some are rescues that have come from homes that cannot care for them but mostly I have paid in full for the joy of owning the rascals.
Jean Paul my buck arrived along with some does from Occombe farm, Gina and Pepper, it wasn't long before they mated, In may 2024 Tink and Wilbur were born and now this year we have Rocky and Beau Beau, Amazingly on Easter Sunday we had a surprise arrival of Billy and Suzi.
Thats 13 goats in total, who live happily sharing the land with the horses.
I come from the Wright family who lived in the villages, Codnor cottages, taplow and rose cottage, along with ones in Haccombe, They were known as the thatchers of the village, so they may have thatched many of the cottages I see daily.
In my spare time, I am an author and publisher, Historian and Genealogist, I also sell handmade Tartan garments Under The Royal Dragon Court ,Dragon Publishing and my new Highland boutique, House of Vere.
I write books about royal genealogy, history and sell the books of my late father Nicholas Devere. Through this research I found that we had many connections to the village, through my great grandparents the Courtenays and the Devere's who owned haccombe manor along with the cousins carews, I found it quite warming that I had found myself back in ancestral lands. If you want to find out more, grab a copy of The Royal Dragon Court Inbred Britain by Abbe de Vere.
Now I live in the village, I had found a cute little cottage with an amazing landlord who loves my cakes, I have made some lovely friends. Everyone has really welcomed myself and family which I massively appreciate.
I sell organic eggs from my girls at Cluckingham Palace, They've gone down a storm with the neighbours and usually sell out on the day, some people pre-buy, reserving which I deliver to their house free of charge before I put a batch out on the door sales.
If you would like this service then dont hesitate to send me a message.
I take cash and card payments, Just knock on the door if you haven't bought cash or buy online here, I have tried to make it as easy as possible for you to purchase your eggstreamly fresh eggs, which are usually laid within days before they get to the customer. There's nothing I love more than a good chin wag with my new and regular customers and appreciate all of you who appreciate my quality farm eggs.
